Offered every autumn since 2014-in supermarket aisles, at contemporary art fairs, and online-the La Vache qui rit® Collector Boxes form a collection of conceptual works created by major artists of our time. These pieces challenge the very notion of what constitutes a work of art, exploring its dimensions of use, distribution, value, and preservation. Since 2014, twelve artists have taken on the challenge of confronting their artistic practice with this century-old brand. Rires en Boîtes, a book-object published by Lab'Bel, features around one hundred illustrations and is sealed with a foil lid reminiscent of the famous round boxes. The publication revisits all of these collaborations and, through texts by various contributors (edition curators, museum conservators, economists, art historians, and collectors), invites readers to better understand the stakes of a project now widely acclaimed by collectors.
